Keith is currently at work trying to figure out the pratical side of this. As you know, insurance stuff is always a mess. His petition for short term disability was denied because he hasn't worked for the company for a year, and the previous treatment that he had is considered a preexisting condition. He started working there June 6th. We think he might be able to resubmit the petition once he has worked there a year. According to the person he spoke to this morning, we don't think it would be considered a preexisting condition if we could make it to June 6th.
Please pray that we can get the answers that we need. Pray that there will be a simple solution to this. It is just one more thing to worry about. I feel like we are already at the end of our rope.

I am so sorry you have to deal with insurance companies on top of all of the things going on right now. Just know that we are praying that God works everything out for the best.
It is common for the company to have a waiting period on Short Term Disability (STD). Just make sure your absences are excused leading up to your 1 year aniversary. This way the company will have no reason to terminate your employment pryor to your STD eligibility. Use vacation or if you can have a high level manager approve an absence in writing that might suffice in order to meet the 1-year requirement. The "pre-existance" argument I wouldn't think would be a condition of your STD benefit.
