Our Newest Family Member

I have many things that I could post about, but today I am going to write about a new member of our family. Her name is Ruby, and she is wonderful! It's a big decision to add on to your family. While I thought long and hard about this decision, I don't regret it for a second. In fact, I wish we had gotten her much, much sooner. Welcome to our family Ruby! (a.k.a. Spike-Can you guess who named her that????)

In all seriousness, I love my roomba. I was hesitant to spend the money at first, but I'm so glad that I did. Cleaning is so much faster with her around. I love walking into the house and seeing freshly vacuumed floors (and knowing I didn't play a part). I'm going to love her even more during the school year when I don't have as much time for housework!

Things That I Want to Remember

The other day, I spent some time reading through old posts. It was fun to watch Lincoln grow up in front of my eyes. I realized that I haven't written much about things he is doing/saying these days.

-He figured out how to take his shirt off by himself this summer. If we are at home, it is not uncommon for him to be without a shirt.

-He loves to wear his cowboy boots. There have been several days when he has worn shorts, boots, and no shirt this summer.

-Lincoln has a rolly polly friend. Anytime we see a rolly polly he thinks it is his "little fellow." It doesn't matter where we are. He often says, "I wonder how my little fellow got here."

-The boy talks ALL THE TIME. He often uses his hands when he talks.

-At the beginning of the summer, I heard the phrase, "I won't (fill in the blank)." Thankfully, this willful phase passed fairly quickly. I'm sure I haven't seen the last of it.

-He also says, "Don't mind if (fill in the blank)." My all time favorite was "Don't mind if we celebrate your birthday at Chuck E Cheese mom."

-The boy also has developed a love for Sonic drinks. Every once in a while, he will ask me if I feel like a Sonic drink. One day I was trying to explain Sonic's happy hour to him. A few days later, he asked me if it was a "happy day." It took me a while to figure out that he meant happy hour. I decided not to correct him. I'm not sure I want him going around telling people that he and his mom love happy hour. : )

Every year we have a Fourth of July Parade. The kids decorate their bikes and ride in the parade. This was Lincoln's first year to participate. We (meaning I) didn't spend much time (meaning maybe 30 minutes) decorating his bike. It rained every day last week, and it poured the night before the parade. I wasn't even sure if there would be a parade. When we woke up Saturday morning, the sky was clear, so we threw on some decorations and headed to the parade.











This is his bike. Not my best work, but we didn't have much time.










Amazingly enough, Lincoln won third prize in the bike decorating contest. The competition was fierce. Did I mention there were only four competitors in his age bracket?









Lincoln is so proud of his trophy! He carried it everywhere he went on Saturday!

This is all the candy we got at the parade. I'm pretty sure this was Lincoln's favorite part!
