I thought the memorial went well. I think Keith would have been pleased. Our preacher did a great job of celebrating Keith's life. Two of the Mercy Me band members sang the song "Homesick," and our worship minister sang another song that meant a lot to Keith toward the end. Though Keith and I didn't talk about what he invisioned for his memorial, I think yesterday came very close to what he would have planned himself.
The memorial wasn't as hard as I thought it might be. Afterall, we focused on celebrating Keith's life. I will be the first one to tell you that he was a great guy. The hardest part was at the end when everyone came by to give me a hug. I was touched to see the number of people who came. So many people took off work in order to attend the service.
I'm doing okay. It still doesn't feel real. Someone at church said it best-"Keith's in a better place, but you're not." I know Keith is in a better place. There is no doubt in my mind. That doesn't keep me from missing him. I constantly see things that remind me of him. Of course there are things around the house, but there are other things as well. Last night we went to get some ice cream, and I saw the peanut butter cup flavor. Keith loved chocolate and peanut butter! This morning we were watching the Today show, and someone was making a dish with scallops. Keith liked those too.
Please pray for everyone who is traveling. Pray that God will grant us strength to face the rest of the week.

I understand the "triggers". Last night I had every intention of sitting down at the computer and working on my final to finish up one of my classes for the semester. I couldn't. Sitting there in my computer chair and staring at the icons of the games we played sent me overboard. It may seem silly, but those icons weren't so much games as they were tapping into my friend Keith hundreds of miles away. I also had some Chinese food yesterday for lunch and remembered our trip to his favorite Chinese restaurant there in Greenville.
I don't imagine that these triggers will go away anytime soon. Once responding in sadness for a few minutes to one of these triggers, I usually find myself laughing once I begin following my trail of thoughts and memories of Keith. His humor was so witty and dry and when I think of his funny comments and just his easy, purpose-filled sarcasm... I crack up. I am so glad we had the chance to meet and be friends. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
God bless you. I don't know your family but got the Harding alumni update.
We had a funeral for a young lady from our congregation last saturday. I read the lyrics to "Homesick". What an honor to have them sing at the service.
Hang in there

Stephanie, mere words just aren't enough to convey to you how sorry we are for your loss. I pray that in these next days, weeks and months, you will feel the Father holding you close.
Shae and I are looking forward to meeting you and Lincoln later this week. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to ask. My e-mail address is ldlp74@hotmail.com.
Stephanie, I too heard about your family through the Harding alumni update. I came to your blog and read every single entry! Lincoln is such a sweet little boy, and the pictures of him and Keith are just precious. I couldn't read all that and not tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Know that the Hodges family is praying for you.

Stephanie-
We love you and have held you near our hearts. Your faith is amazing and I know that God will heal your pain. We miss Keith with you. I really don't know what to say. Words just don't seem of value... simply know that Ross and I are praying for you and Lincoln, we love you, and hug you from afar every day.
Blessings,
Ross and Jamie
Stephanie, I just want you to know how sorry I am for your loss. You don't know me, but I graduated high school with Joel, and my husband and I were at Harding with Keith his first year.
I have read your blog over the last few months ever since I found out about Keith and am amazed at your strength and courage. It strenghtens me each day to read your blog! I am sorry that Keith had to go through this and that you have had to deal with something like this in your lives. It is hard to imagine this happening with a spouse, especially when you are young, and we all think that it won't happen to us. Sometimes we don't understand why things happen. But know that you are and have been a great example of faith to others who have or are having struggles in their lives. You have shown that our faith in God and love for Him can help us when these things do happen and can help us come through it.
I know it is and will continue to be very hard to not have Keith in your life and the next weeks and months there will be difficult times, but know that you have so many people praying for you and your continued faith in God will see you through it.
Stephanie, Katie Coldwell told me about Keith. I'm so sorry to hear about his death. Please know that Jonathan and I are lifting you and Lincoln both up in prayer every day during this difficult time.

Stephanie and family,
I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Keith even though we were at Harding at the same time. I myself just lost a loved one, not my spouse but my mother to cancer and I know what you are going through. Just know that you will always miss them but it gets better every day just knowing that he is not hurting or suffering any longer. A friend gave this poem to me and I wanted to share it with you. I hope that in someway it helps you during this time.
Merry Christmas from Heaven
I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
on cold wintery nights
I still share your hopes
and all your cares
I'll even remind you
to please say your prayers
I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
you stand head and shoulders
above all the crowd
Keep trying each moment
to stay in HIS grace
I came here before you
to help set the your place
You don't have to be
perfect all the time
He forgives your the slip
If you continue to climb
To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you
In a new special way
I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
'Cause I'm spending my
Christmas with Jesus this year.
In Christian Love
