On the way to work today, a lady was talking on the radio about a song that touched her during a time of hardship. Though I've heard the song many times, in some ways I heard it for the first time today. The song is by Mercy me, and it's called Bring the Rain.

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that
I've gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It's never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times

So I pray
Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am yours regardless of
the clouds that may loom above
because you are much greater than my pain
you who made a way for me
suffering your destiny so tell me whats a little rain

Holy, holy, holy
Holy, holy, holy
is the lord God almighty
is the lord God almighty

Sometimes I still struggle with why this had to happen. I've even found myself wondering if I had learned whatever it was that God wanted me to learn the first time Keith had cancer would Keith have been spared. I've come to the conclusion that none of this is about me. It's about God being glorified. As hard as it is right now, I continue to cling to Him.

Stephanie,

You are a wonderful example of praising God when things are not allright by our human standards. While we're in the mood for singing, I'll share another song that reminds me of you. I'm sure you've sung it also: "Blessed Be Your Name" by Matt Redman

Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name when I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise
And when the darkness closes in Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name when the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name
on the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Stephanie,

I was just telling Abby yesterday what a blessing that song has been to my life this year. We read your blog to know how to pray for you and Lincoln, so keep sharing your heart and we will keep praying. Little Lincoln is sure growing up fast, we all think he is sooooo cute. Please let us know if you need anything. We sure miss you two here in Greenville!

Blessings,

Gina Brookshire

What an encouragement you are to so many Stephanie...thanks for reminding me today where my focus needs to be. Off of me and onto God.

And God is being glorified in so many ways. Your story is reaching multitudes! God is using you to touch his people and He will continue to bless you for trusting him. Love you,
Rebekah

That is a beautiful song. "Praise you in this storm" by Casting Crowns is one of my favorite... this is the chorus:

And I'll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

The whole song is beautiful... you've probobly heard it too. It is such a blessing to have wonderful music that encourages!

Thanks for sharing the mercyme song with us!

Reading your blog is the only way I know you. You are such an encouragement and inspiration, though I know you probably don't even realize it. The thing is life is sometimes full of raw deals and you got a big one... undeserved, unfair, unprovoked. The thing that inspires me is that you have (at least as far as I can tell from this blog) not stopped living and doing everything in your power to give Lincoln the best life you can. And you are honest. And you still do love God though you probably can't understand why he let this happen to Keith, and to you, and to Lincoln... But you love anyway, live anyway and keep going. That, my cyber-friend, truly inspires me. Thanks for being so honest and tranparent in this journey!
