A Piece of My Heart

The other day we were at Target. A little girl was calling out for her dad. Lincoln started copying her. He was calling out "Dad. Dad." At first, I just laughed, but the more I thought about it, the more it started to bother me. It doesn't matter how loud Lincoln calls out for his dad, he's not coming.

I realize that Lincoln doesn't understand where his dad is. But as I watch my baby turn into a little boy, I know that day is coming.

I'm not sure I've ever commented on your blog before, but I've been reading it for a long time now. I found it through an email Harding sent out...I'm a HU Alum. I can't even begin to imagine how heartbreaking that one word was for you to hear, but I also want you to know that from what I read you are doing an INCREDIBLE job with Lincoln! My dad died when I was a little girl and of course I knew about it when it happened (unlike Lincoln), but my mom is the one who made it all better for us. I know that you will do that for your sweet baby boy! I'm sure it won't always be easy, just as it wasn't for my mom, but Lincoln will be an amazing man someday because of what he'll go through and even more so because of your love for him.

We are still praying. I can't imagine how I would feel in your shoes. I do believe that you are a strong and faith filled woman and I admire how you face each new challenge with grace. I am praying God will give you the words to say to Lincoln when that time comes.
