The Potty Training Blues
This post has nothing to do with Lincoln and everything to do with me. Lincoln is doing so well. While I am happy for him, there's a part of me that's very sad. Though I really haven't considered Lincoln a baby for some time, I guess there was a piece of me that still considered him my "baby." As I see him wearing big boy pants and taking himself to the restroom, I can't help but realize that my "little man" is now a little boy.
It seems a bit silly to be on the verge of tears about this. I know that this has more to do with Lincoln growing up and less to do with the fact that he is no longer wearing diapers. I think I may be struggling with this more than some moms because I don't know if I will ever have any more kids. While I've tried to "soak in" every moment and enjoy each stage, the truth is that the time has passed way too fast. So today as my heart rejoices with a little boy who is so very proud of himself, a piece of my heart breaks as well.

That's the true hearbreak of motherhood. We know how hard it will be and how tired it will be, but no one can prepare us for how heartbreaking watching your children grow up really is. Your situation makes it more bittersweet, but there isn't a mother out there who doesn't know what you are feeling. At every stage we're excited about all the new things, but we mourn deeply what's been lost and will never be the same again. *Sigh* It's really so much harder than I ever thought it would be! Love you, friend. Talk to you soon!
Oh Steph -
My heart aches for you too... Praying that you feel God's nearness in those moments when Lincoln is getting too big for his britches (literally). Love you!
I SO know this feeling, Steph! I was just watching and admiring my little guy the other day... how he's not so little anymore. How he's growing up, out of his "toddler" body, and looking more like a "big boy"... Feeling so proud, but a little sad, too.
I think part of the sadness is that this is a version of him that his Mommy never knew, and never will... (Yes, we can hope that she can "watch us from Heaven", but obviously that's different than sharing it with me, here and now.) She would be so proud of him! She would so enjoy this part of his "growing up"!
Anyway... just giving an "amen", I guess, to this post. Opah-dee, opah-dah... right?
:)
I understand that heartache as well. They grow too fast. So far each stage has been fun and full of its own adventures, but watching them grow before your very eyes is a hard thing to do. Love you and miss you lots.
HUGS, Stephanie! Cade turned FIVE yesterday- it is joyous and difficult to see them grow up so quickly and know that I've probably forgotten more than I remember. Praying for you, as always!
I understand the growing up too fast thing. My "babies" are 3.5! I will be praying for you!
My kids are 11 and 16, yes driving age , and I STILL feel the way you do ! Don't worry- He will ALWAYS be your baby- And if you ever decide to move to Louisville, KY, I have a lot of nice Christian single , but still cute, men for you to meet!
