If I had to use one word to describe the way I have been feeling the past few months, it would be . . . discouraged.
The three year mark hit pretty hard. At this point, I find myself struggling with trusting God's plan. I sit and watch other young families thrive and grow and wonder if he has forgotten about us. I hate that it is just the two of us, and so I feel discouraged.
Lincoln has been a bit of a handful lately. While I love being a mom, I will tell you that doing this on my own isn't easy. It is so hard to come home from a long day at work and find out that he has been misbehaving at school. When he has a bad attitude or he is disobedient it is always me that must handle it. It is always me that must come up with consequences. It. is. always. me. While I know that it is perfectly normal for kids to go through difficult phases, part of me takes it personally. I can't help but doubt myself as a mom, and so I feel discouraged.
School has worn me out as well. This has been a year of transition. I knew going into it that this year would be a challenge. I don't regret changing grade levels, but it has been a lot of work. The other prek teacher I work with is phenomenal. She is one of those teachers who goes above and beyond every single day. I've struggled with feeling like a slacker this year. I try to remind myself that she is in a different place in life with all of her kids grown. When I come home at night, I can't do hours of work. I have a little boy who needs his mom's attention. My head knows this, but my heart is a different story.
The good news is that it is spring. Warm, sunny weather makes everything better! And there's also a big birthday party coming up. You'll have to wait and see what this year's theme is. I will tell you that I am going to be the paper mache queen when all is said and done! : )

Hi and ((((HUGS)))) - I knew Keith at Harding and I think about you alot, even though I've never met you.
I really wish you weren't going through this. I'm sure you've thought of this, but have thought about trying to find some support through Parents Without Partners? Also there are online forums such as youngwidow.org. I know that it will not provide alot of help, but it can help a little. I believe there might be a online widows support group on churchofchristsingles.com, I think. (If not someone should start one) I think that places such as Hospice have grief support groups too, where you might meet other moms in your situation.
((((((HUGS))))))))))
I know this doesn't help, but I think what you are feeling is normal. I know of several young widow/ers who have found that it almost gets harder as time goes on. Shock is gone, reality has really sunk in and you are tired of it. My own mother, who was not young when my father died, struggled more emotionally as time wore on. I remember the second and third anniversary of his death as being more difficult than the first.
Hang in there, Stephanie, I'm sure you will find your way.

Thank you for posting. You are often in my thoughts...especially with a three-year-old. It was THE HARDEST YEAR with our little guy and I remember being exhausted and frustrated and empty at the end of every single day. I cannot imagine what you must be going through by yourself with Lincoln. But know this: you just might be the most patient, most loving, most purposeful mom I know and you and Lincoln will survive this.
Miss you, friend.
I, too, think about you often. I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch lately. I was hoping we could all find time to get together soon. I'm in need of you all! Anyway, I can't pretend to know or understand what you are feeling. I'm so sorry you've had a hard year. You encourage me so much. Thank you for sharing. Sometimes I feel that I've been put on a shelf and forgotten. The Lord gently reminds me that is not true! He is at work in me and I believe without a doubt that he is at work within you. Love you!
I've missed your heart felt updates.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. "To everything there is a season . . . "
Adding you and Lincoln to my prayers.
God Bless
Susan
Stephanie, I think of you often and check your blog periodically to see how you are doing. Hang in there these last few weeks of school and then you will have a nice long break. We would love for you to come see us in Greenville. You are still thought of and prayed for often. God HAS NOT forgotten you!

God hasn't forgotten about you. Maybe that little bit of strength that helps you keep your patience, doesn't let you yell or lose your cool, or gives you energy to smile at Lincoln at the end of the day did come from God. Age 3 and 4 was difficult for me an my son. You are such a good mommy. Never doubt that you are always doing your best for Lincoln. He is lucky to have such a good mom like you.
