I managed to survive the first week. My 14 friends have kept me on my toes! As a teacher, you tend to forget what the beginning of the year is like. I guess it's a bit like childbirth. : ) They are starting to get the hang of school more and more each day. I'm really looking forward to week 3 or 4 when they are in the groove and we're not having to spend so much time talking about procedures and such.

I do have one funny story to share.
One day one of my girls was crying because she got in trouble. Several kids turned back to look at her, which only made matters worse. One child proceeded to call her a "crybaby." I quickly informed him that "crybaby" was not a school word. He then said, " My mom and dad call me a crybaby when I cry at home." I asked him how it made him feel when they did that, and he said that it hurts his feelings. I suggested that he talk to his mom and dad about how it hurts his feelings when they call him a crybaby. He looked up at me with a huge grin and said, "Thanks Ms. McCord!"

Lincoln and I will be on our own next week. My parents flew to CA on Thursday, and they will be staying for a week and a few days. One of my cousins is getting married. This will be my first taste of being a single working parent. If you think about it, say a prayer for us. Pray that Lincoln doesn't get sick, and pray for me as I struggle to balance work and school.
